Lynda Mallinson
Functional Medicine Dietitian
Qualifications : BSc Dietetics, PG Dip Diet, IFMCP
About Me
My passion for nutrition began on my family’s farm in South Africa, where my parents instilled in me the importance of healthy eating and gut health. I was fascinated by biology and witnessed firsthand the power of nutrition when my mother used diet and supplements to manage her Crohn’s Disease. This experience solidified my belief that what we eat is fundamental to our wellbeing.
How I Work
I integrate my dietetics training with the principles of Functional Medicine, focusing on identifying and addressing the root cause of chronic conditions rather than just managing symptoms. By taking a detailed patient history, and using advanced laboratory testing where necessary, I create personalised therapeutic dietary plans and lifestyle interventions to help restore health.
My clinical interests are broad, but a consistent theme across my practice is the profound importance of a healthy gut. I find that gut restoration is often the most effective starting point for guiding patients back towards better health.

Training and Qualifications
BSc Dietetics, PG Dip Diet, IFMCP
I graduated as a dietitian in 1996 from Pietermaritzburg University. After establishing a private practice in South Africa, I moved to the UK in 2002. I initially worked for the NHS before returning to private practice in 2003.
My career has included roles as the lead inpatient dietitian at Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon and as the dietitian for the Cancer Centre London. Since 2012, I have been part of the London Rheumatology Clinic.
My journey into functional medicine began in 2013, and I became a fully certified practitioner through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) in 2017. This approach has revolutionised my practice and significantly improved patient outcomes. I have since completed further specialist training, including the SIBO Doctor course (2019), the PEAT cancer course (2021), and the Root Cause Dermatology course (2025).
Having completed Dr. Julie Greenberg training on Root cause dermatology, Lynda is now one of a handful of UK qualified practitioners listed as an affiliate for ‘Root Cause Dermatology’ ‘Root Cause Dermatology’
My interests and hobbies
I have always loved being in the kitchen. From a young age, I spent my weekends at home (as I was a weekly boarder) baking for our farm neighbours. As my interest in health and nutrition grew, so too did my curiosity about food, and my focus shifted to creating appetising, nourishing meals. I gave up red meat at the age of ten—simply because I never enjoyed it—which led me to explore vegetarian cooking as a way to keep my diet both balanced and interesting.
Cooking and entertaining have always brought me great joy. Opening our home to friends and family is something I truly love. I was raised on a tennis court, as my mum was a tennis coach, and to this day I still play league tennis with my sister at our local club in Wimbledon. Other passions include gardening, catching up with friends, early morning walks with my husband and our dog, and cheering on our three children at their various sporting fixtures. As a family, we are actively involved in our local church and spend a great deal of time with our church community.
