My Background

Since childhood, growing up in northern Italy, I dreamed of becoming a doctor — someone who could help people heal and live happier, healthier lives. During my years of medical training, while I learned the science of the body and how to treat its ailments, I found myself drawn even more to the people within those bodies.

I always believed instinctively that the body and mind are deeply connected. I wanted to understand why disease occurs and why the body stops functioning as it should. Even though my training focused on symptoms and organs in isolation, I felt strongly that true healing required looking at the body as an interconnected whole.

This belief led me to specialise in General Practice — the place where you can truly see a person in their entirety. For twenty-five fulfilling years in NHS General Practice, I cared for patients across all ages and conditions. Yet over time, I realised that even this broad approach wasn’t enough. The conventional model often applies temporary fixes to seemingly unrelated symptoms, without looking for the deeper reasons behind them.

Combine that with a system that allows only minutes with each patient, and chronic disease becomes something people simply endure. Many continue living with pain, fatigue, emotional strain, and a growing list of medications, unsure if improvement is even possible.

My “a‑ha!” moment came when I discovered Functional Medicine. This evidence‑based and clinically grounded approach offered exactly what I had been searching for: a model of care that delivers meaningful, lasting results. Functional Medicine moves away from treating symptoms in isolation and instead seeks to understand why those symptoms are occurring. By identifying and addressing the underlying mechanisms that are driving dysfunction in the body, symptoms often improve and normal function can be restored.

The conventional medical model remains the gold standard for acute and emergency care: if you have pneumonia or are manifesting signs of a stroke or a heart attack, or you have an injury, you absolutely need prompt hospital treatment. But when it comes to the prevention and long‑term management of chronic disease, Functional Medicine provides a powerful, comprehensive approach. It doesn’t replace your standard management, rather it enhances it, offering a way forward for those who want to understand their health more deeply and reclaim their quality of life. I am passionate about increasing awareness of Functional Medicine in the wider community and I am keen to promote and enable greater access to this type of approach in the future.

I was born in London and raised in Italy. I have an Anglo-Irish & Italian background, and I consider myself European and a Citizen of the World. I love a wide spectrum of musical genres. I am passionate about choral music, especially baroque, and I sing with two choirs in London. My favourite form of exercise is walking. Good food, good movies and good books rank at the top of my favourite interests.
